    Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library & Museum

    In the United States it's customary that when a president leaves office, a presidential library is built in the state he is from. Dwight D. Eisenhower or "Ike" - the 34th United States president, is from Abilene. His presidential library opened in Abilene in 1947 and is next door to his boyhood home and where he grew up.
    Visitors to the library will have a chance to see over 70,000 artifacts, 26 million pages of historical records and papers and 335,000 photographs. There's also a visitor center and museum.
